This month’s meeting will be January 18th at 7:00pm in the Parish Center.

Our Roast Beef Dinner is Saturday the 21st from 4pm until 7pm. We could use some kitchen help if you have the time. Start time for the workers will be discussed at the meeting.

After the dinner, we have a lull in our events until the Spaghetti Dinner on March 24th. We will be talking more about that during February.

We are asking that all members coming to the meeting this month and throughout Lent bring a non-perishable food item or two which will be donated to Keystone Community Services.

If you have not given us your e-mail address yet, please see me at the meeting. Sending the newsletters out via e-mail is a great way to save a couple of dollars every month in postage and paper supplies.

Dues for 2012 will remain at the present level and are due in the next month or two. You can either bring them to one of the meetings or mail them to the Men’s Club c/o of the Parish Office at 1160 Woodbridge St, St. Paul, MN 55117.

I will be on vacation next month so there will be no newsletter in February.

This month’s meeting will be December 21st at 7:00pm in the Parish Center.

The Christmas Party is over and the general consensus is that everyone attending had a good time. The food was good and it was a nice change of pace having it held somewhere other than the Parish Center. Our Man of the Year award was presented to Dave Misukanis during a break in the entertainment. There were a total of 47 people who attended.

In another note to do with the Christmas Party, we have a missing jacket alert. At the end of the party, Peter Seghieri discovered that someone had gone home with his leather jacket and left another in its place. If one of you wore a black leather jacket to the party, please check it to make sure that you have the right one. Peter’s missing jacket is a dark brown leather which almost looks black. If you have it, please call Peter at 651-488-3859 to make the swap.

At last month’s meeting we decided that we would do a food collection at meetings beginning in December. We ask that all members coming to the meeting bring a no-perishable food item which will be given to Keystone.

The Roast Beef Dinner will be held on Saturday, January 21st in the Parish Center. Serving time will be from 4pm to 7pm. We are anticipating getting some volunteer help from the Scouts for this event but we need Club volunteers also to help in the kitchen. Let us know at this month’s meeting if you can join us.

I have a supply of 2012 pocket calendars from the Holy Name Society. Please let me know if you need one at the meeting.

Elections are over again for another year. Your officers for 2012 are; President, John Stafford, VP, Paul Krey, Secretary, Steve Griffith, and Treasurer, Dick Kortekaas. The Board consists of Dave Misukanis, Duane Johnson, Peter Seghieri, Steve Andert, Rich Jechorek, and George Kramlinger. Thanks to all of the new volunteers.

The SVDP free store is on Sunday, the 13th and they always
Welcome new volunteers. Set-up time is usually around 10:00am
in the Parish Center gym. Stop in if you have time.

Our Friendship Sunday is on November 20th. John will be bringing all of the goodies about 7:00am. We could use some volunteers to help with set-up and after both Masses.

The annual Christmas Party is December 3rd at the Ideal Hall, 1494 Dale St, St. Paul MN.
Social hour begins at 1:00pm with Dinner following at 2:00pm. The cost this year is $15.00 per person which will be collected at the door. Please RSVP by November 29th to either John Stafford at 651-488-1035 or Dick Kortekaas at 651-777-1007.

Coming up later in January will be our second Roast Beef Dinner. More details on that will follow next month.

This month’s meeting will be October 19th at 7:00pm in the Parish Center.

This month are the Club’s elections for Board and Officers. We need several people to step up to fill board vacancies, and Vice President, plus there are officer positions for Treasurer and Secretary that will be open for nominations to anyone interested.

The fourth annual Booya was a success again this year. We sold out of the 60 gallons right at noon. Many thanks go out to the overnight crew who did the cooking, the large group that showed up Saturday night to cut the vegetables, and all of the people who where there on Sunday to help serve and clean up. There will be a full report at the meeting.

Our recruitment drive from last month only resulted in one new member showing up for the meeting. In order for the Club to continue being a vital part of the Parish, we need everyone to keep working on bringing new people to our meetings.

The Young@Heart group will be having another of their homemade Thanksgiving dinners on November 15th. Watch for more information in the Sunday Mass bulletins if you might be interested in attending.

Plans for this year’s Christmas Party, which is being held off campus, should be finalized by the meeting. John Stafford should have more information for us then.

This month’s meeting will be September 21st at 7:00pm in the Parish Center.

I am sad to report that since our last meeting, two of our members have passed away. Both Dick Huberty and John Zimitsch had been members for many years and will be missed. Memorials in each of their names have been sent to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Our annual Booya is coming up on October 1st and 2nd. As of right now, we will be cutting vegetables after the 5PM Mass on Saturday. We will cook all night and begin serving at 7AM Sunday morning. All help cutting, stirring during the evening and serving the next day is more than welcome.

The Archdiocesan Holy Name Society is having their annual meeting and raffle on October 24th at St. Albert Church in Minneapolis. The Board has decided to purchase 20 raffle tickets at $5 per ticket. Since most of the membership received 5 tickets, if you are not going to use yours personally, please bring them into the meeting for me to use.

Young @ Heart is hosting a Lasagna luncheon on September 20th at Noon in the Parish Center. The cost will be $9.00. If you are interested in attending, please call your reservation in to Marlene Blatzheim at 651-770-0138.

Our September meeting is going to concentrate on recruiting new members. If you know of anyone that might be interested in joining the Club bring them along. We will be serving Tin Cup’s chicken and coleslaw for our snack.

This month’s meeting will be August 17th at 7:00pm in the Parish Center.

It’s hard to believe but the end to summer is just around the corner. The State Fair opens up in a couple of weeks and I have yet to eat my first ripe tomato thanks to Mother Nature’s fickleness.

The Twins game went well last month with the Club selling all but 2 tickets prior to the game. The remaining 2 tickets were sold at the ballpark so we did not have any left over. Everyone attending had a great, although sticky time, in spite of the teams loss.

The Rice Street Parade booth did well again this year and the table handled by the Neocatechumenal youth sold enough eggrolls to garner a matching $200 donation from the Club.

The Parish Festival is August 21st and many of the stands are looking for volunteers to help. If you can work for a couple of hours let anyone on the Festival Committee know or just show up and lend a hand. Contact information should be in the Parish Bulletin. As always, we have been asked to take care of the beer sales. If anyone would like to help with that, there will be a sign-up sheet at the meeting.

There are still a few tickets remaining for our Twins game on the 22nd. If you know anyone that might be interested, have them call me at 651-777-1007. We will start serving food at 5:00pm and the bus will leave at 6:00pm.

At the last regular meeting it was decided that we would not be doing a Gold Plate dinner this year. The closing of the schools and a tough economy have both contributed to declining attendance at the dinner. Additional funds that we may need in the future will be made up through other events.

The Rice Street Parade will be Thursday, July 28th this year. The Club will be selling brats and hotdogs in our usual spot next to the Parish Center. Stop by if you can lend a hand.

This month’s meeting will be June 15th at 7PM in the Parish Center.

Our Annual Fishing trip to Mille Lacs has been cancelled because we did not have enough people signed up to cover the cost. I want to thank Steve Schwartz for all of his help with organizing past trips. Everyone that has gone on a previous trip has always had a good time. Steve Schwartz has also informed us that he will not be organizing another trip next.

June 12^th is the Club’s Friendship Sunday. Several Club members will also be working the SVDP Free Store that day so we need volunteers to cover from about 10:00am until Noon.

This year’s Twins event will be Friday, July 22^nd. The cost will be $40 per ticket and will include a meal at the Parish Center beforehand and a bus ride to and from Target Field. Because we will have only 50 tickets, Club members will get first chance at them but you must be signed up and the reservations paid for by the June meeting. After that, we will offer them to the Parish.

The planning for this year’s Gold Plate dinner has started but I think that we, as a club, need to discuss whether we want to continue with this fundraiser. In 2009 there were only 87 dinner tickets sold. In 2010 we sold 77 and four tickets were not purchased at all. Club participation is just over 50% and fewer than that work at the dinner. Lastly, we need to ask ourselves why we need to raise $3000. The last two years we have gotten substantially away from what used to be our primary goals, funding the school and the student programs within the Parish. If need be, we could continue to support the Scouts and SVDP with the profits from our other events. Let’s decide what we want to do before we risk over $2500 dollars to put the Gold Plate on.

The Picnic at Central Park is coming up as well on June 26^th. Lots of help is always needed on the grills and serving line. Last year’s event was huge and we are expecting the same this year.

I know Spring is just around the corner but the road getting there is looking longer all the time. Looks like tomatoes won’t go in until June 1st.

The Holy Saturday reception, which was supported by the Men’s Club and Young at Heart, was a huge success with over 125 people attending. There were lots of jelly beans, hard boiled eggs, cake, and cupcakes to go around.

There was some discussion at April’s meeting about whether we should go to a Twins or Saints game. We will decide this month which one it will be and if it is the Twins, there will be a signup sheet to start reserving tickets. This year’s Twins event will be Friday, July 22nd. The cost will be $40 per ticket and will include a meal at the Parish Center beforehand and a bus ride to and from Target Field. Because we will have only 50 tickets, Club members will get first chance at them but you must be signed up and the reservations paid for by the June meeting. After that, we will offer them to the Parish.

There is still lots of room for anyone wishing to go on this year’s fishing trip to Mille Lacs on June 10th. Cost is $65 per person and there are about 15 openings still left. Let me know if you are interested or sign up at the meeting.

The Club’s next Friendship Sunday is June 12th`. Help is always appreciated after both Sunday Masses. Stop in if you can.

Our recent Spaghetti Dinner was another success. Thanks to all of the volunteers who showed up to help. We again were fortunate to have some help from the Boy Scouts which made things a little easier on everyone. The dinner made just slightly more than last year. The wrap-up will be available at the meeting.

The Holy Name Spring Banquet is being held on May 21st at St. Albert the Great in Minneapolis. Cost is $17.00 per person. The details on the menu and a sign-up sheet will be available at the meeting. So far we have only three people signed up. If you are interested in attending, please sign-up.

The Boy Scouts are looking for help in the form of donations, equipment, etc. I am including a letter from them with this newsletter that will explain more in detail what is needed. Please help if you can.

The April meeting takes place during Lent, and we will not be serving a meal. We are asking that everyone attending bring in a food shelf donation instead.

Our 25th Spaghetti Dinner is being held on March 19th from 4PM until 7PM in the Parish Center. Volunteers will be needed for cooking and set-up by 10AM. We are also asking everyone to bring in 1-2 dozen cupcakes that can be used for dessert.

The Holy Name Spring Banquet is being held on May 21st at St. Albert the Great in Minneapolis. Cost is $17.00 per person. The details on the menu and a sign-up sheet will be available at the meeting.

The Archdiocesan Men’s Conference is being held March 12th at the Cathedral. Cost is $20 per person and registration opens at the Cathedral at 7AM with Mass at 8AM. Please call Bill Dill at the Archdiocese if you would like to attend. His number is 651-291-4553. Sorry about the short notice on this but we did not get notification until Feb 28th.

The March and April meetings take place during Lent, and as has been our custom, we will not be serving a meal at either meeting. We are asking that everyone attending bring in a food shelf donation instead.

Catholic Aid will be hosting its’ Fish Dinners every Friday during Lent beginning March 11th. Watch the weekly bulletins for more details.

An Anointing Mass will be held on Monday March 14th. The Rosary will be said at 9:45AM followed by Morning Prayer with Mass starting at 10:30AM. There will be a luncheon afterwards put on by Young at Heart. The menu consists of meatloaf and all the trimmings. Cost will be $9 and a reservation is required. Contact Fran Blatzheim at 651-770-0138 if you are interested.

We will be discussing several Amendments to our Constitution and Bylaws at the meeting. As required by the Constitution, these proposed amendments have been delivered to the Secretary prior to the Regular Meeting. Also required by the Constitution, a brief reference regarding the proposed amendments is being mailed to all Club Members through this newsletter. They are as follows: (1) Article X of the Constitution and Article XI of the bylaws regarding the process for handling amendments are inconsistent. The proposed change would have Article XI mirror Article X. (2) Article V, Section 2 of the Bylaws would add verbiage regarding the monthly review and certification of all expenses and checks written for the previous month. (3) Under Article VII of the Bylaws, the Telephone Committee would become the Communications Committee and change the word “calling” to “contact”. The exact wording for all changes will be provided to everyone attending the meeting for review and discussion.

Our first Roast Beef dinner held on January 29th was a success. We served over 180 meals and made over $450 for the Club. There was lots of help from Club members, spouses and a huge turnout by the Boy Scouts who kept the tables clean and the food line moving. Thanks to everyone who showed up.

If you need a break this month, the Young at Heart group is organizing a casino bus trip to Turtle Lake on February 24th. Check the weekly Mass Bulletins for times and contact info.

The next Club event will be our Spaghetti Dinner held on March 19th this year. We will need lots of volunteers again to make this run smoothly. Please keep the date in mind.

2011 Club dues are due. This year there is no Men’s Club envelope in the weekly contribution envelopes. Please just use a separate envelope plainly marked as being for the Men’s Club and put it in the offering basket on Sunday or mail them to the Club at 1160 Woodbridge, St. Paul MN, 55117.

Steve Andert presented information to the board about the roast beef dinner that he would like the Club to put on. After some discussion, it was decided that we would go ahead with the dinner on January 29th. Steve has planned a complete menu which will include roast beef au jus, mashed potatoes with gravy, vegetable, cole slaw, bun, and dessert. It should be a good time. There will be more details at the meeting and a sign-up sheet for volunteers to help.

Club calendars for our 2011 events will be available at the meeting. We have tentative dates for both the Twins outing and the fishing trip but are still waiting on confirmations to make sure that both dates are good.

If you have any ideas for new Club activities, bring them to the meeting. So far we have nothing scheduled in either April or May.

This month’s meeting will be March 17th in the Parish Center. We are back to our normal starting time of 7:00PM.

The ticket for the Rice Street A/C’s dinner was won by yours truly. Peter Seghieri and I attended the dinner at Mancini’s on March 7th. Good time and good food, but we were not fortunate enough to win any of the door prizes.

Our annual Spaghetti Dinner is on March 20th. Many of you have signed up to work already but we could always use the help. Sign up at the meeting if you can. Just a reminder that we would appreciate it if everyone could donate 1 ½ dozen cupcakes for dessert at the dinner.

The Sunday Bible Study course is going strong with over 30 people attending the sessions each Sunday between the Masses.

The fishing trip still has about 10-15 openings left. June sounds like a long time way right now but the trip fills up fast. Please sign-up at the meeting or let me know if you want to go.

The Board had a discussion regarding the future of the Club after the closing of the High School. There are a multitude of projects that we could work on in the Parish and we would like to hear your ideas at the meeting. New on the agenda this month will be a recommendation from the Board to help with funding transportation to Mass for the Karenni refugees and some additional help for the Boy Scouts. We will need your input and approval to pass these two items.

As always, if you have ideas for new events of projects you would like to talk about, bring your ideas to the meeting.

This month’s meeting will be February 17th in the Parish Center. Please note that because of Ash Wednesday services that same evening, our meeting will be starting at 7:30pm.

The Rice Street A/C’s gold plate dinner is March 7th and is being held at Mancini’s this year. The board has approved the purchase of a ticket and if the membership agrees with the purchase, we will be giving the ticket away to someone at the meeting.

Board meeting dates have been changed to the first Wednesday of each month rather than the first Tuesday. This change will eliminate scheduling conflicts with several of the Board members.

Our annual Spaghetti Dinner is coming up in March. A sign-up sheet for workers will be available at the next meeting. This is a big event and we will need everyone’s help that can make it.

A Sunday Bible Study course will be starting up in the next couple of weeks. The Club has offered to purchase the course materials the first 50 people to sign up. See the Sunday bulletins for more information

There are lots of other thing to do around the Parish this month. Young at Heart is having an Anointing Mass and Lunch for seniors on February 23rd. Contact Marlene Blatzheim at 770-0138 by the 18th if you are interested. The Bulldog Benefit is February 27th, St. Vincent DePaul is having another free store on February 28th, and Catholic Aid’s fish dinners should be starting up shortly. If there are other things that you would like the Club to be doing, bring your ideas to the meetings.

Happy New Year! This month’s meeting will be January 20th at 7PM in the Parish Center.

Elections for Man of the Year and Holy Name Man of the Year were held at the last meeting. Dick Kortekaas was elected for the Club honor and Frank Bruns received the Holy Name award. It was decided to change future election dates for the two Men of the Year awards to coincide with meetings that we have greater attendance. The club Man of the Year election will be held at September meetings and the Holy Name Man of the Year will be in February beginning in 2011.

During the January meeting the Club discussed whether or not we would want to financially support the Bible study classes that are being proposed by the Pastoral Council. We decided that we would like more information and are going to ask someone from
the Council to attend our meeting this month.

The Club decided in January to re-enforce our sponsorship commitment to the Scouts by voting to cover registration costs for the both the Boy Scouts and the Cubs. There are also camping programs that are coming up in the near future that we may be able to help send some of the Scouts to. Both programs have seen some nice growth in the last several years because of the work of the leadership and deserve our support.

Thanks to everyone that has already paid their dues for 2010. If you have not paid them yet, please get them in when you can.

The Christmas Party is behind us and this year we had 42 people attending.

The food was excellent and everyone had a good time. There was even a “surprise visit” from Santa himself who passed out candy canes to all.

The Bowling Tournament for the High School is all set for December 12th. We have eight teams signed up and ready to go. Please stop by the lanes that evening to watch or lend a hand if you can. Check-in for the bowlers starts at 6:30PM and bowling begins at 7:00PM.

Nomination and election of this year’s Man of the Year will be held at the meeting this month. Seems that we overlooked it this year during the regular elections in October.

The 2010 Club calendar is complete and will be available at the meeting. It looks like another busy year is coming up but there is always room for more activities. If you can think of anything you would like the Club to do be sure to bring it up at one of the meetings

It’s almost time for dues again. Please make sure that you are up-to-date. Our dues help offset the cost of the food and refreshments at our meetings as well as this newsletter.

By now all of the invitations for our Christmas Party on December 5th have been mailed out. Please be sure to RSVP by November 30th if you plan on attending.

Saturday, December 12th has been set as a tentative date for a Moonlight Bowling Tournament we are hosting for the High School. More details will be forth coming as we get closer to the date. As always we will need some volunteers to help this be successful. Please set aside the date if you can.

We need a person willing to be responsible for the food for our meetings. Both Jack Graham and Don Grundhauser have decided to give up the job after several years of making sure that we didn’t go home hungry after the meeting. If you are willing to help, let us know at the meeting.

The Club is hosting Friendship Sunday on November 15th. Set-up will be about 7:30 am and then servers will be needed after both Masses.

This month’s meeting will be October 21st in the Parish Center.

The summer was busy but Fall is starting to fill up with activities as well. First of all are our Officer and Board elections at the October meeting. We are looking for a Vice-President and two Board members to serve a two year term. The Club needs to fill these positions to keep operating, so volunteer if you can. We are also going to have a discussion about using some of the Club’s funds in an event during November with the High School. Stop in to hear all of the details.

The Booya is behind us and while we did not make as much as last year, we did make $250. We had anticipated an increase in turnout over last year and that did not happen. Next year we will adjust the amount we make to agree with the crowd size. The amount of members and ladies that turned out to help was overwhelming. My thanks to everyone who helped. This is a two day event and it takes a lot of workers to make to successful.

Other organizations within the Parish need some volunteer help and are asking the Men’s Club members to help where they can.
St.Vincent De Paul is having a free store on October 25th and needs 4-5 guys to help with set-up and unloading. The hours are from 10am-1pm but workers would start a little earlier. The Festival Committee is hosting a Turkey Bingo on Sunday November 8th and could use some help with sellers, callers, etc. If you would like to help, watch the bulletin for contact information.

The Club is hosting Friendship Sunday on November 15th so put that on your calendar. We can always use a few more volunteers help run things smoothly.

The Christmas Party will be Saturday, December 5th in the Parish Center. Watch for your invitations coming in the mail.

This month’s meeting will be August 19th and will be held in the newly finished Parish Center.

This weekend is the Parish Festival and many of us will be busy helping in different spots around the grounds. Volunteers are always welcome at the Beer booth so stop in when you can if you have not already committed to a time. This year John Stafford is running the food booth and is looking for a hand with the grilling for both Saturday night and Sunday. See John on Saturday night and let him know if you can lend a hand.

The Gold Plate tickets are moving a little slow this year. We need everyone to pitch in with the sales if this event is to be a success. Extra tickets will also be available at the sweepstakes booth at the festival if you need more.

It seems like summer just started but it’s almost time to start planning the 2nd Booya, which will be October 4th this year. All of the prepwork on the vegetables and the actual cooking will start on October 3rd. If you are a real nite owl, think about helping out stirring a couple of pots Saturday night.

This month’s meeting will be July 15th and will be held in the Grade School Gym because of the construction work being done on the Parish Center.

The Fishing Trip on June 19th was a huge success. Although there were not a lot of keepers, nearly everyone caught fish. As always, Steve Schwartz did a great job planning the event.

The Picnic on the 21st was attended by about 50 people and the weather was beautiful after a few light showers in the morning. Many thanks to all those that helped, especially John Stafford who picked up all of the food and brought all of the equipment.

The Twins game looks like a sell-out at this point. Nearly 50 tickets have been sold. More details next month.

It’s nearly time for the Rice Street Parade again. This year the Parade will be on Thursday, July 23rd. We are planning on having our booth up and running again with brats, hotdogs, and beverages for sale. We will probably need some volunteers to help on the grills and with customers. More details will be available at the meeting.

The tickets for this year’s Gold Plate Dinner will be available at the meeting. We need a lot of hard work this year with ticket sales if we expect to sell out again. If anyone knows of a source for door prizes please let me know.

Welcome to Spring!

The AAHNS Spring Banquet on May 2nd, was attended by about 50 members from parish’s around the Twin Cities. Frank Bruns, this years’ Holy Name Man of the Year was present and received his award. Congradulations Frank!

This month’s meeting will be on May 20th in the Parish Center. This will be our last meeting in the Parish Center as the remodeling work is scheduled to start the first week of June. While the construction is going on, the Club will hold its activities in the Grade School Gym. Look for more updates on the remodeling next month.

The Fishing Trip on June 19th still has a few openings. The bus will leave the parking lot at about 3PM Friday and return about 1AM Saturday. The cost is $65 and reservations can be made by calling Steve Schwartz at 651-484-4106 or by emailing me. If you know anyone interested please get in touch with Steve or myself right away.

The Club Picnic is scheduled for June 21st at Roseville’s Central Park. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for students. Children 10 and under are free. This event is open to the entire Parish. Watch for more information in the weekly bulletin.

We have a Twins night scheduled for July 10th. The cost is $20 per person and includes a pre-game tail gate party in the High School parking lot. Transportation to and from the game via luxury bus and a reserved seat ticket for the game. We are limiting the number tickets to just 50 so make your reservations early by via email at stbernardsmensclub@gmail.com.

The Spring and Summer seasons are starting to fill up quickly with Club events . These events are opening to everyone so please participate when you can.

The Spaghetti Dinner held in March was a huge success again this year. We served 220 dinners and the Club cleared over $1100. Thanks to all of the volunteers, both Club members and wives, that turned out to help. A special thanks is due to Fran and Marlene Blatzheim for organizing the dinner again. We couldn’t have done it without everybody.

The Club decided at the March meeting that we would offer up to $1000 as a matching donation of the Mass second collection contributions during the last weekend of March. The Parish members responded with contributions of $2700 and check for $1000 was presented to the Parish on March 31st. Because of everyone’s generosity, the $30,000 goal for Parish Center remodeling has been exceeded sooner than expected.

The AAHNS Spring Banquet is being held May 2nd at the Church of The Holy Cross in Minneapolis. The cost is $16 per person and reservations need to be in by April 30th. Reservation sheets will be available at our April Meeting or you can contact me for an email copy.

This month’s meeting is April 15th. In addition to our regular meeting, we also will have the selection of our Holy Name Man of the Year. There will also be a Knights of Columbus Gold Plate Dinner ticket given away at the end of the evening. Invite a friend to come along.

The Spaghetti Dinner is finally here on Saturday the 28th and the flyer should be in the bulletin this week. We are asking the membership to help out with desert again this year. Please bring a dozen and a half cupcakes to the Parish Center sometime during the day on Saturday to be used at the dinner. Your donation to this is always appreciated.

At this month’s meeting we are going to have a speaker from the St. Vincent De Paul Society. We usually make a donation to the Society every year during Lent. Maybe this year we can do a little better if the need is there.

Fishing trip spots for June 19th are going fast. There is room for only about 12-15 people left. If you would like to reserve a spot, either sign up at the meeting or call Steve Schwartz at 651-484-4106.

Mike and Don Grundhauser attended the Rice Street A/C’s Gold Plate dinner with the ticket that we gave away last month. They had a great time and won $100 which was given back to the Club.

The Gold Plate dinner sponsored by the Knight’s of Columbus in White Bear Lake is going to be held at Gulden’s on April 29th. This is always well attended by the Club and if you would like a ticket, see me at the meeting.

Last month we had a new member, Steve Andert, join the Club. Steve is very active in the Scouting Program and has been a life-long member of the Parish. Please continue to ask possible new members to our meetings. Let’s continue to grow the Club this year whenever possible.

Ash Wednesday is February 25th.

Last month we talked about a trip to a Twin’s game this summer and our fishing trip in June. The Twin’s game is still being looked into and the Fishing Trip has been scheduled for June 19th with a cost of $65 per person. There will be more details as we go along.

Our Spaghetti Dinner scheduled for March 28th is getting closer so please schedule some time to volunteer on that Saturday. Help with the prep work, workers during the dinner, and a cleanup crew are all needed.

At the Executive Board Meeting on February 3rd, a request from the Bowling Alley for $300.00 to purchase new shoes was presented by a representative of the lanes. After discussion, the Board approved the request and now we will need the Club’s approval to go ahead.

The Board also approved the purchase of a dinner ticket for the Rice Street A/C’s Gold Plate on March 1st at Gabe’s . This ticket will be good for two dinners and four bar drinks. This ticket will be given away the evening of the meeting to some lucky member as part of our attendance drawing.

A request for a donation for the Senior Lock-in was tabled until the March Board meeting so that we could have an opportunity to talk to someone from the committee.

This month’s meeting is February 18th at 7pm in the Parish Center. Invite a friend or someone you see at Mass. Remember, our club membership is free until June for new members signing up now.

Dear Men’s Club Member,

With the arrival of the new year, comes the revival of an old tradition. The Monthly Newsletter.
The newsletter is just to let everyone know what has been happening with the Club and what’s on tap for the future. It is also an open invitation to and a reminder of our monthly meetings. Meeting participation has been dwindling over the past several years and when that happens, participation in events declines as well. Although the Club still has an active presence in the Parish, it is nowhere near what it has the potential to become again. I encourage all of you to attend our monthly meetings, help out with our two Friendship Sundays’ a year, or volunteer at our Spaghetti Dinner, Booya or Gold Plate Dinner. Not enough? How about the Rice Street Festival booth or the Beer Tent at the Parish Festival. For fun there is the Annual Fishing Trip, the newly revived Club Picnic, and the Christmas Party. There is lots to do but without everyone’s participation, the Club will eventually just go away. Let’s not see that happen.

What’s new coming up? For one thing, our annual Spaghetti Dinner is fast approaching again and will be held on March 28th. This is always a big event and provides the Club with additional dollars we can use for School or Parish needs. If you can make meatballs, we need YOU! Sign-ups for help will be at the next three meeting.

The end of Charitable Gaming with pull tabs at a couple of local bars, may present us with a new opportunity to plan some events for the Parish or neighborhood. Maybe it’s time to discuss some ideas and see if we have the membership support needed to do some new things.

We need to start thinking about where we want to be donating some of our money. We have funds left over from last year and we were very successful with our Gold Plate Dinner last September. We have the ability to help out with several projects this year, all we need is your input.

We would like to see everyone at the next meeting which is Wednesday, January 21st at 7:00pm in the Parish Center. There will be food and refreshments following the meeting. See you there.
